UPPER House MP Edward O’Donohue has been appointed Parliamentary Secretary for Transport after being returned for a second term to the Legislative Council seat of Eastern Victoria.
Re-counting takes longer with the Upper House results and elected members will be declared officially by the Victorian Electoral Commission today (Tuesday 14 December).
The Liberal National Coalition has secured at least two Eastern Victoria seats in the Upper House and Mr O’Donohue will hold one of those.
He said the result came from hard work and listening to the local communities.
“There are many challenges ahead for the State Government and this is an exciting portfolio to begin working on the issues facing the Victorian transport system,” Mr O’Donohue said.
“There are tremendous opportunities for transport in Victoria as it makes up how products are delivered to our supermarkets or how we get to school and work.”
Mr O’Donohue said that as well as working in the transport portfolio he plans to continue travelling throughout the Eastern Victoria Region and meeting with various community groups and individuals.
“The communities in Eastern Victoria Region are diverse incorporating the south-eastern suburbs of Melbourne in the west, the hills region in the north and to the rural regions of Gippsland in the east,” he said.
“There are many challenges ahead for Eastern Victoria Region and I look forward to working with the communities in ensuring that our infrastructure and towns are catered for into the future.”
