Flaws in emergency control

VICTORIA’S response to flood disasters could change after the release of a report critical of the State Emergency Service response to last summer’s emergencies. In his interim report into the adequacy of Victoria’s flood response, former police chief Neil Comrie concluded that fundamental flaws in Victoria’s emergency management structures and policies must be fixed “as a matter of urgency”.
Community consultations, which included Cardinia Shire, found that in many locations no emergency alert warnings were activated during the floods and there was confusion about who was in charge of managing responses.
The final report will be released later this year.
