Opportunities lost

WATCH out, our rate notices are about to be delivered.
Another over-inflated bill that we do not need, and another bill that should not be so high.
Much of what is delivered by council, would be delivered with or without councillors, under state planning/legislation etc.
Council is just an expansion of an ever increasing public sector.
One role councillors can play is to advocate state and federal governments, which is why councillors need to be independent.
Personally I believe home mortgages should be fully tax deductable for everyone.
Why should only the rich and investors be able to write off mortgage expenses?
Housing would instantly be affordable, and rent would drop as people moved into home ownership.
Lynbrook and Lyndhurst needs an underpass at Aylmer Road, not an unsafe level crossing, should this road be opened.
Shopping down south needs to encompass giants such as Costco, IKEA, and Spotlight.
At a recent meeting with local business interests, it was surprising to still hear of the lack of zoning to attract a Costco or similar. Years have been lost, while other municipalities grab these opportunities.
Lynbrook rail station car park will need a permit system, to ensure only locals can park at this station and the EPA needs to be stationed full-time at the Hallam road tip, until it is closed.
Another opportunity lost is the push, launched back in 2008 by myself for a Cranbourne Hospital, complete with 24/7 emergency department.
Our parks and roads need to made safer and rates capped to CPI.
Count on it..I will be nominating in next year’s council elections, and these are a just a few changes I will deliver on..
Oh, just watch the Casey council cheer squad write in now….and why? Is it because I will again cut back on wasteful, extravagant council booze ups and functions…horse riding lessons for councillors, sister cities and luxurious cruises around the bay? I think so.
A council ward review will be undertaken later this year, if Lynbrook and Lyndhurst are to gain, they need to have their own ward, their own identity and a stronger voice on council.
Steve Beardon,
Lynbrook.
