Cranbourne goes down fighting

THE Cranbourne Bowling Club had a very disappointing day on the greens in Metro round six pennant, with only two of their six sides winning.
The top side played at home against an in-form Berwick, but despite being in front in the latter part of the game, Cranny fell away badly on all rinks in the last few ends to lose overall. Only Ray Travica’s rink managed a win, with his third, Barry Thomas, having a day out on the free-running Cranbourne green. The lack of player consistency is of concern to the selectors and some changes may be mooted at the selection table this week.
The second side lost to Berwick (2) away. Only Rob Reid’s rink of Frank Byrne, Tony Collins and Alan Mickle had a win, in another disappointing result for Cranbourne.
The Cranbourne third side won at home against a strong Cheltenham (2) side, winning on three of four rinks. Gary Farrington’s rink and John Mulder’s rink did well, winning by 12 and 11 shots respectively.
Only Rod Mill’s rink managed a win for the Cranny fourth side in their away game against Cheltenham (3).
The Cranny fifth side lost to Glen Waverley (4) away, but the sixth side managed a narrow win against Pakenham (4), thanks to good wins on the rinks of Cheryl Wright and Shirley Venville.
