Trivia night for Borneo trek

AN OLINDA student heading to Malaysia in September to take part in community service projects is holding a trivia night next Saturday to raise money for the trip.
Lahni Charlton, 15, is one of 15 students from Monbulk College to participate in the World Challenge, which will see them visit Borneo for four weeks to do a trek and help out in the community.
She said she had always wanted to visit Malaysia and the World Challenge was a great way to both see the country and provide help for those in need while she was there.
“It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity and I thought it would be a really great experience,” she said.
“I’ve always really wanted to go to Malaysia to work with the kids other there and help people who are struggling.”
Lahni and her World Challenge team-mates will lead the trip and be involved in every aspect of the expedition preparation, from raising funds to planning the overseas itinerary.
While in Borneo, each student will rotate roles and try taking up roles such as leader, accountant, accommodation manager and transport manager.
Lahni needs to raise $7000 all up, which includes her flights, accommodation and equipment for the trek.
As such, she will hold a trivia night at Mount Dandenong Primary School on Saturday 30 June from 7pm, where she will auction off items such as jewellery, gift vouchers, and other items.
She encouraged businesses to jump on board and sponsor her for a good cause.
“I’m asking businesses to consider one of three ways to help me get to Borneo – donating a prize for me to auction off at my trivia night, sponsoring me with items of clothing or equipment that I can take with me on my trek or cash donations to help me on my way,” she said.
