MATER Christi College is encouraging former students, parents and staff to add to a history of the school being prepared for its 50th birthday.
The Belgrave secondary school for girls will celebrate the milestone on Saturday 2 February and plans are already in full swing.
The college will hold several events throughout the year including a Foundation Day Mass on Saturday 2 February and a community reunion on Sunday 10 November.
“There will be many opportunities during 2013 to acknowledge the courage of our founders, the Good Samaritan sisters, and the work of many wonderful people who built this community, to celebrate their achievements and to take inspiration from our past,” principal Mary Fitz-Gerald said.
History teacher Peter Kadar is currently gathering photos and anecdotes from former students, parents and staff to produce a book about Mater Christi’s past and would welcome further contributions from the public.
“Peter is working through our archives and has uncovered important and entertaining stories from our past,” Ms Fitz-Gerald said.
“Understanding the past gives us all a better appreciation of the amazing opportunities we have today, so it is timely for us to document our history.
“We also see each celebration as much more than paying tribute to these past achievements.
“It’s an opportunity to look forward to what the future holds.”
