By MARA PATTISON-SOWDEN
A 45-YEAR-OLD Montrose man died after being airlifted to hospital in a critical condition following a head-on collision in Yarra Junction on 10 September.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision.
Investigators said a Ford station wagon was travelling east along the Warburton Highway about 2.30pm. The driver lost control of the vehicle and it collided with a west-bound ute.
Emergency services arrived at the scene and the Ford’s driver, a 54-year-old Montrose man, was taken to The Alfred where he later died.
The ute’s driver, a 28-year-old Healesville man, suffered minor injuries and has been helping police with their investigation.
Upper Yarra SES was called in to extricate a person trapped in one of the vehicles.
The collision occurred on Warburton Highway, close to George Street and across the road from the Yarra Junction police station. The area is a 40km/h school zone between 2.30pm and 4pm.
