BELGRAVE Region Action Group’s (BRAG) annual Carols in the Park is on Friday and this year is aiming to be bigger and better than ever.
The event will begin at 7pm this Friday 14 December at Belgrave Town Park and will boast a huge range of performers and even an appearance by Santa Claus.
BRAG member and event organiser Liz Beaton said that one of the main attractions will be the recently announced Ringwood RSL Bagpipe Band, which will be playing at 7.30pm.
“It’s so different and away from the norm, hearing carols performed with bagpipes,” she said.
“But we’ve also got other fantastic performers.”
Among those performing are the Tecoma Primary School choir, Sweet Sassafras choir, Vokkalista choir, Folktrain choir, Dave McFarlane and his daughter and many more.
Ms Beaton said that she is so grateful for the help of those performing and supporting the event, which drew around 500 people last year.
“Without the support of our performers, the event simply wouldn’t happen,” she said.
Santa will be visiting the Carols in the Park event at 8.30pm, escorted in by a CFA truck, and will be handing out lollies and taking photos with the children present.
“We’ve got our fingers crossed that it’s going to be a beautiful, mild night like last year,” Ms Beaton said.
In the event of a rain-out, the carols event will be held at Mater Christi College Hall as normal.
The event will feature a free sausage sizzle with veggie burgers, funded by Belgrave Rotary and Dandenong Emergency Relief Services will be selling tea and coffee as a fundraiser.
There will also be a raffle held to raise money for next year’s Carols in the Park event.
Some of the prizes available include a bike, donated by La Trobe MP Laura Smyth, a voucher from Trees Adventure and more.
