A MONTROSE couple have been jailed for three months after pleading guilty to hosting an extravagant four-day $52,000 wedding at the Daylesford Inn in 2011.
Margaret and George Eakins appeared at Ballarat Magistrates’ Court last Monday, charged with obtaining financial advantage by deception.
The pair, both in their 60s, paid an initial $7000 deposit, but never had more than $668 in their account since the payment.
They gave two cheques to the hotel, valued at $45,000, which bounced in May and June last year.
The couple were both sentenced to six months prison, with three months to be served immediately and the other three suspended.
They plan to lodge an appeal against the sentence.
