FIREFIGHTERS from Upper Ferntree Gully and Upwey conducted a planned burn near the Upper Ferntree Gully fire station last Sunday to reduce fuel in the area.
The burn covered the grassy area to the east of the station along the railway line and took the full day to complete.
Motorists experienced some delays with traffic heading east bound on the Burwood Highway as two lanes had to be closed to make way for firefighters and heavy vehicles.
The fuel reduction burn was among many conducted in the hills over the weekend by CFA and DSE crews.
However, residents are urged to hold off burning off on their own properties until the fire restriction period is over.
