MELBOURNE Archbishop Denis Hart spent a day in the Yarra Ranges last Wednesday and paid a special visit to the students at St Mary’s Primary School in Mount Evelyn.
The school held an assembly for him, where the children sang the Irish Blessing song, a song traditionally reserved for special events.
Principal Lynne O’Meara said the children were very excited to see the Archbishop, who thanked the teachers for their work and encouraged the students to continue their learning to become great members of the community.
“We’re training them as the members of the Mount Evelyn community and Melbourne for the future,” he said.
“Therefore, we need to help them to know that God loves them, that they’re really respected, to help them to help and respect other people and to help them to discover their talents so they can use their talents to make our world a better place.
“They’re just so lucky, these young people.”
He said the Yarra Ranges was a marvellous place.
“I think there’s a great spirit of enthusiasm, and it’s just such a beautiful part of Melbourne,” he said.
“I want to send my greetings to the people of the Yarra Valley and to say keep this place beautiful in the way it looks, beautiful in the way people look after each other and beautiful in the way we try to achieve the best for our country.”
