ST CUTHBERT’s Wedding Chapel is opening its doors to new opportunities and events within the community.
For more than 100 years the chapel has been a part of the Menzies Creek community and since it restoration in 1997, St Cuthbert’s has been used as a wedding chapel.
Co-owner and marriage celebrant Anne Aldridge said it was always a dream of hers to own a church and said it is a beautiful place to be.
“The chapel is 107 years old and is a little timber pioneering chapel which is the original church in Menzies Creek,” she said.
Ms Aldridge said since its restoration in 1997, St Cuthbert’s has been and still is used as a wedding chapel however the owners are looking to again make St Cuthbert’s an active member of the Menzies Creek community.
“The church was always a very big part of the community and to be able to showcase live music once every couple of months will be a nice little add on to what we already do,” she said.
“We want to show everyone that we are still here and still available for use.”
A Pleasant Sunday Afternoon at St Cuth’s will be the first live music event and will feature Irish singer Maria Forde with her new show Sing a Song for Ireland.
“We have a good relationship with Maria and everyone we have spoken too is really excited about the event,” Ms Aldridge said.
“As a daughter of Irish parents, Maria believes she has a responsibility to explain Irish heritage across Australia.
“This will be a fabulous afternoon with Maria’s heartfelt music, set in the beautiful surrounds of Menzies Creek in the heart of the Dandenongs.”
Sing a Song for Ireland will be at St Cuthbert’s Wedding Chapel, 196 Belgrave-Gembrook Road, Menzies Creek, on Sunday 25 August at 2.30pm.
