Number’s up for suspended drivers

POLICE nabbed five drivers with suspended licences in an Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) operation in Mount Evelyn last Tuesday.
More than 3400 cars were scanned between 9am and 3pm along York Road, with police also catching six people for having unregistered vehicles, one for failing to have a breathalyser installed and one driver for not displaying P plates.
Olinda Police Station Sergeant Paul Phillips said it was disappointing to see so many people driving with suspended licences.
“From our point of view it was a good result for the number of detections but also not good as the offences are still being committed,” he said.
“The number of suspended drivers is still pretty high, which is quite disappointing.”
He said the operation will continue until Christmas and warned drivers not to break the law.
