WITH beautiful morning weather, Yarra Ranges athletes were up for an exciting competition in the Club Verses Club Day.
The athletes, who had dressed for the occasion, looked very proud representing their club with some going to great lengths to proudly display their colours.
There were excellent performances as the four clubs, Comets, Redbacks, Mustangs and Jaguars, batted it out for top spot.
Two records were broken with Molly Dixon breaking a 20-year record in the 800m and Tayleb Willis breaking a 32-year record in the 100m.
As the day progressed Mustangs began to break away with the lead followed by Comets then Redbacks and finally Jaguars.
A modified program that included a relay had athletes assembled into teams for the day’s final event.
After a day of competition and numerous personal bests, the final results were Jaguars in fourth with 184 points, Comets in third with 221 points, Redbacks in second with 252 points and the overall winners, for the fourth year in a row, the Mustangs with 313 points.
In the afternoon, it was the Seniors’ turn in Round One of the 2013 AV Shield Competition at Nunawading Athletics Track.
The biggest turn out of Yarra Ranges athletes to date resulted in some outstanding performances.
Highlights of the day were wins in the 4x100m relay in the Open Women Division Two team and the Mens Under 18 team.
Sunday saw a team of athletes head to Geelong representing the Easter Region at the competition commemorating the 50th anniversary of Little Athletics.
Wins to Lily peacock (1500m) and Georgia Laven (400m) were the highlights.
Many athletes recorded personal bests in the warm conditions.
