IT started as the Montrose Fire Station in the 1940s, but this old building now has a new lease on life.
For the last few months, members of new group, the Montrose and District Men’s Shed, have been busy renovating the inside of the Shed.
President of the group, Max Lamb said the group formed 12 months ago but they had to find a home.
“We’ve got about 15 members already, but we’re looking to grow now that we’ve found a home and refurbished it,” Mr Lamb said.
He said the idea of a Men’s Shed was originally an Australian idea, but there are now groups popping up around the world.
“It’s mainly for retired men who feel isolated in their community,” Mr Lamb said.
“We come together and work on various projects, it doesn’t have to be woodworking, but most of our members enjoy that aspect.”
Mr Lamb said as the group grew they hoped to offer their services to other community groups including schools and kindergartens.
The Shed will be officially opened by MP Tony Smith on Friday 14 March at 11.30am.
The Shed is open Tuesdays and Fridays from 10am until the door closes and located behind the old Public Hall.
