Nothing silly about these skills

STUDENTS at Belgrave South Primary School have created artwork based on the Janeen Brian and Cheryll Johns’s book Silly Galah.
In a collaborative project, students in grades prep to grade five contributed to the art assignment during art classes last year to create a permanent art display at the school.
Belgrave South Primary School art teacher and project co-ordinator Christine Bernhardt said the children in grades one and two were studying the topic Australian Animals which prompted the assignment.
“Children worked on a range of skills that involved threads and textiles including sewing and using running stich and blanket stitch,” she said.
Ms Bernhardt said the students also learnt skills such as cutting and fringing fabrics, painting fabric, pattern making, weaving and knotting.
