Dining out on success

Monique Kuzeff

THANKS to Stroke A Chord Choir and other supporters, Tasty Az was deservingly awarded the ‘Highly Commended Award’ at the Victorian Disability Sector Awards.
Despite having only been in business for seven months, Tasty Az has already catered for countless occasions including birthdays, boardroom dinners and local government morning teas.
Tasty Az Catering operations manager Julie-Ann Morman said that out of 185 nominations and 45 finalists over eight categories, Tasty Az caterers were delighted to receive the award.
“One young member of Tasty Az rang me this morning ‘on top of the world’ – what a positive outcome which will flow on now into their lives and the lives of their families for days or weeks to come,” Mrs Morman said.
“I have been overwhelmed by emails and phonecalls this morning offering congratulations for our most recent achievement.”
In celebration of this outstanding award, Tasty Az will be having an afternoon tea party with Stroke A Chord members to thank them for all their support.
The afternoon tea will be held at the Tasty Az venue in Lilydale on Wednesday 25 June where Tasty Az members will be catering a two-course lunch that will feature roast beef, Yorkshire pudding and seasonal roast vegetables.
Mrs Morman said that sights were set high for Tasty Az and they would continue to strive for their ‘one job a day’ target as they also planned various events that would take place during the rest of the year.
“We are just about to commence a three-year contract preparing dinners for the Wandin Rotary Club and preparing quotes for several special events including a wedding,” Mrs Morman said.
There will be a Restaurant Training Day on Wednesday 25 June; and 21 to 25 July will see a week of festive ‘Christmas in July’ lunches which will enable young people to get a first-hand restaurant training and work experience.
“We are also planning musical melody events, serving delicious home-made morning and high tea treats at our beautiful firelight dining room, which has exquisite garden views and the capacity to comfortably seat 100 guests,” Mrs Morman said.
Being a community-based organisation it’s the people and businesses within the community who support Tasty Az through their encouragement, catering and bookings that help them to provide more opportunities for youth with a disability.
Reservations are essential as seats are limited, please contact Jules on 0449 028 637.
