Eyes on weather as crews clean up

By REBECCA BILLS

EMERGENCY service crews are still out in force throughout the Dandenong Ranges today expecting more damage to come.
Olinda’s CFA lieutenant Steve Walker told the Mail this morning crews are working on clearing two trees that fell across the Mount Dandenong Tourist Road near Toorak Road in Mount Dandenong around 2pm yesterday, the trees knocking down power lines and hitting a car.
Mr Walker said historically it’s likely there will be more damage because there are still a lot of trees that fall once the wind stops.
“Residents need to stay very alert, don’t get under any trees and if you are unsure of any trees on your property please get it assessed,” he said.
Emergency services crews said the Mount Dandenong Tourist Road was not expected to re-open until noon, with residents asked to avoid entering the hills if possible.
If it’s necessary to travel, Ridge Road in Mount Dandenong is still open.
