BELGRAVE students are preparing to wow audiences as they take on Broadway classic, “Exit the King” later this month.
Mater Christi College senior students have spent the last few months fine tuning their theatrical and stagecraft skills for the performance, due to screen 29 – 30 August at Burrinja Cultural Centre.
The production is an absurdist comedy portraying the decline and death of King Berengar I, his court and kingdom after it had been conquered in 961.
Audiences can expect a high grade show, assisted with the use of innovative projections and a musical soundtrack.
Mater Christi College principal Mary Fitz-Gerald said the experience had helped students work together and pull off an entertaining re-enactment of the Italian King’s demise.
“The school production is a wonderful learning opportunity for our students as it not only provides an avenue for artistic expression, it also teaches the values of teamwork, perseverance and hard work to achieve a common goal,” she said.
First hitting Broadway in 1968, critics praised the playwright Eugene Ionesco’s script, with one New York Times writer naming it Ionesco’s “incomparably greatest work.”
The performance will be held on Friday 29 August at 7.30pm and 30 Saturday August at 2pm and 7.30pm.
