Reserve facelift pledge

By MELISSA MEEHAN

THE clubhouse is termite infested and there are no change room facilities for women, but all that could change if the Napthine Government is re-elected.
Last week Gembrook MP Brad Battin met with Bruce Rush and Bradley Wynd to commit $650,000 to upgrade facilities at Chandler Reserve in Avonsleigh.
Last week the Mail reported that female umpires and netballers were forced to get changed in their cars before matches at the ground due to a lack of changerooms.
This week, Mr Battin said his recent visit to the ground with Sports Minister Damian Drum ensured that the funding was made available.
“It’s an exciting time for the future of all in Emerald, as this needed community facility goes into construction phase,” Mr Battin said.
Emerald Football Club president Bruce Rush welcomed the news, and said that he was looking forward to seeing the club’s plans become a reality.
“We want it to become a community hub,” Mr Rush said.
“We’re very pleased with Brad’s work to get this to happen, it’s been a long process but worth it.”
Secretary of the Recreation Reserve Committee, Brad Wynd said it had been a long hard battle to get the reserve the update it deserved.
“This funding announcement is excellent,” he said.
“We’ve got a number of clubs who use the facility and this will benefit them all.”
