THIS Christmas will be a bit merrier for some hills residents thanks to local generosity.
Dandenong Ranges Emergency Relief Service is again running the “Christmas in the Hills” appeal to collect food, gifts, vouchers and money for people in need.
Monbulk MP James Merlino launched the appeal and is encouraging the Dandenong Ranges community to donate.
“There are many people in our community who at this time, rather than feel joy, will experience loneliness, financial hardship and personal difficulties.
“A festive food hamper would make a huge difference for families and individuals in need.”
Involved with the hamper appeal for the last four years, Mr Merlino met with volunteers from the centre and donated a number of hampers to the collection.
The appeal is gathering non-perishable food items including tinned ham, tuna and vegetables, biscuits, long-life milk and custard, fruit cake, pudding, chocolate, tea and coffee. Gifts, vouchers and money are also being collected to make Christmas a little brighter for those in need. The hampers will be assembled by the relief service and distributed in time for Christmas.
All donations can be dropped off at Dandenong Ranges Emergency Relief Service, 1632 Burwood Highway, Belgrave, by the end of this week.
