THE Monbulk Cricket Club was recently named the Melbourne Stars ‘Stars Club’ for 2014/15.
The club was presented with a $10,000 cheque just before the Melbourne Stars versus Perth Scorchers Big Bash match at the MCG.
About 100 junior player and families enjoyed the night.
This award was in recognition of the club’s junior program (seven teams and more than 100 Milo kids) and the part the club plays in community events, such as the Monbulk Fun Run.
This was just reward the hard workers at the club and an indication of a great community.
On the field this weekend, the Monbulk Hawks firsts, seconds and thirds all started two-day matches against UFTG.
The firsts managed to bat their 80 overs and post a competitive score of 9/192.
After being in trouble early, Aaron Powell 60 not out and Daniel Clark not out put on a terrific partnership.
The fourths had an exciting win in their one-day clash.
Chasing Bayswater’s 5/232, a few old blokes got 50s, including Chris Defina’s new highest score.
Young Thomas Badgery was a star, making 34 with fellow junior Scott Bennett hitting the winning boundary with two balls to spare.
The under-17s and under-15s have a bye, while the under-13s won their third match in a row with a great team performance against Upwey.
Special mention to Campbell Dennison who has taken 11 wickets for 10 runs in his past three matches.
