Good news for baby Blues

FOUR Blue Tongue lizard babies were rescued from their dying mother after being rushed to the Healesville Sanctuary last week. The mother lizard was brought to the sanctuary’s Wildlife Health Centre on Tuesday 3 February after she was attacked in Christmas Hills. Veterinarians at the sanctuary began emergency surgery, but the lizard died while under anaesthetic. However, after the vets conducted an X-ray of the mother, they realised she was pregnant with 13 babies, which were removed via C-section. The four lizards (pictured) woke up quickly after the operation, though their nine siblings are not expected to survive. Blue Tongue lizards are independent from birth, and the babies will be released shortly, once their health is confirmed.
