High-flyer joins Bulldogs

By PETER DOUGLAS

WANDIN Football Club this week received a massive boost ahead of the 2015 season, with the signing of silky forward Joel Coombes.
The high-flyer will provide added firepower for the Bulldogs, as they seek to go one better after losing to Woori Yallock in last year’s grand final in the Yarra Valley Mountain District Football League.
The former SANFL and Ovens and Murray League player this week received a clearance to join the Bulldogs, after crossing over from Essendon Football League club, Glenroy.
Coombes brings a wealth of playing experience to the Bulldogs.
After plying his trade with TAC Cup team Sandringham Dragons, Coombes initially trained with Hawthorn.
Coombes is a noted goal-kicker and usually spends time playing as a high half-forward.
In three seasons with Ovens and Murray Football League team Myrtleford, he booted 104 goals.
He crossed to league rival Wangaratta Rovers in 2013.
Coombes has also played for Eastern Football League team, East Burwood.
He is also noted for his high-flyer, which helped him to become a finalist in The Football Show’s ‘Almost Footy Legends’ segment.
Woori Yallock last year completed a three-peat in the league, defeating Wandin by 14 points.
