STUDENTS at Mountain District Christian School have used a business studies unit to help raise funds to support a local family.
In a fantastic display of kindness, funds raised from this year’s Year 8 school fete has helped to raise $2600 for one of the school’s families, whose youngest daughter faces a battle with Leukaemia.
From the total, $1000 came from Year 8 student, Dylan, who shaved his hair for the cause.
Dylan (pictured) was presented with an award from Victoria Police for his honourable action.
As part of the ‘Starting a Business’ unit, the students had to learn about teamwork, applying for a business loan, ordering, purchasing, production and sales.
This year’s business idea was a fete, which was set up in the school gym.
The initiative included many student stalls, including tie-dye T-shirts and socks, as well as facepainting, drinks and water balloons.
Teacher, Ms Jackel, said she couldn’t be happier with the students’ dedication.
“I am so proud of the Year 8s,” she said.
“They came up with this idea without any prompting.
“They have really taken ownership of this project.”
