EMERALD Secondary College upped the ante this year when it came to honouring our Anzacs.
Led by the Student Representative Council and the school captains, with the help of Julie Cross-Gun, this year’s activities included a whole-school Anzac Day commemoration assembly, as well as a the presence of a host of special guests.
This included Gembrook MP Brad Battin, a Royal Australian Air Force representative and members of the Emerald and District Rotary Club.
The school leaders involved in the project included Matiss Baumanis, Mackinley Scott, Matilda Sinclair and Ricky Coniglione.
School principal Julie Doble said it was an amazing day.
“I’m a very proud principal and it showed great leadership in bringing this together,” she said.
“As a school, we’re very keen on sharing history with our students for the future.”
Among the many activities included laying wreaths at the school’s Lone Pine memorial, which was then followed by a morning tea.
Meanwhile, Mr Battin spoke about teenagers’ involvement in Australia’s war history, which Ms Doble described as very powerful.
“It was a stunning way to remember our Anzac history, a fantastic initiative from our student leaders,” she said.
