FANS of The Sunny Cowgirls can expect some classic ‘Cowgirls’, and more, when the popular duo make their way back to the York on Lilydale on 3 December.
Sisters, Sophie and Celeste Clabburn, are mainstays of the Australian country music scene having released their eighth studio album “Here We Go”, in September.
The album kicked off another Australian tour and Sophie told the Mail they couldn’t wait to get back to the Yarra Valley.
“Every time we’ve played The York it’s been a crazy night,” Sophie said.
“We’ve played there three or four times and we just love it.
“We’re looking forward to it.”
Sophie said growing up on the farm in Dunkeld in Western Victoria was where it all began, influenced by their guitar-playing dad who wrote his own songs about working on the farm and the different characters he met.
Their girls, eight-time Golden Guitar nominees, followed suit immortalising their experiences working as roustabouts and farmhands, in their debut album ‘Little Bit Rusty’.
While the new album takes them back to their roots in terms of music, Sophie says it also reflects their ‘growing up’.
“Our songs are drawn from real life experience … just from growing up and different life experiences,” she said.
“Celeste did a stint in the Territory and has done a few songs out of that, and I’m recently married, so there are a couple of songs out of that.
“Life is always changing, always growing, so there are always new songs on the horizon.”
Country music new-comer, Jemma Beech will open the show who, like the Cowgirls, sings about country people, the land and the lifestyle.
Be warned, the girls are travelling with a full band and Sophie says they will be expecting their audience to do more than just a bit of foot-tapping.
“We’ll be expecting everyone to get up, have a dance, enjoy the music and just have a fun night out,” she said.
