Ferntree Gully’s Ashwant Gobinathan will be representing Australia at the Total BWF Sudirman Cup next week on the Gold Coast.
The event will be watched in 500 million households worldwide and it is an opportunity for him to prove his number one Australian ranking.
Gobinathan’s ranking follows a swathe of success last year, including a gold-medal win at the 2016 Oceania Badminton Championship in the men’s singles division.
