You know spring has truly sprung when the Tesselaar Tulip Festival is in full bloom and bursting with a kaleidoscope of colour.
Although the star of the show is the more than 900,000 flowering tulips, showcasing 130 different varieties, there is so much more to see.
Visitors can discover plenty of themed children’s events, live entertainment, market stalls; and delicious local food, beer and wine.
Just some of the themed events include the Over the Rainbow Week (18-21 September), where visitors can join Dorothy, Scarecrow, Tin Man and Lion as they journey through the magical land of Oz in twice daily performances.
The Dutch weekend (22-24 September) will include Tukkers Clog Dancers, live bands, tempting Dutch foods, activities, games and market stalls.
The Children’s Get Active week (25-28 September) kick starts the school holidays with Peppa Pig and her little brother, George, daily on the main stage.
In addition, dance with Ruby Ray and the Funky Monkeys, participate in African drumming and hula hoop workshops, play with animals in the petting zoo or make a trip to a fairy hollow.
Escape the everyday on the Food, Wine and Jazz weekend (29 September and 1 October).
Kids are encouraged to dress up as their favourite hero or character during the Children’s Superhero Week (2-5 October) with spot prizes given out every day.
Come for the fun at the end of the festival on Irish Weekend (6-8 October).
The Tesselaar Tulip Festival is open daily, from 9am to 5pm, during 14 September to 10 October at the Tesselaar Tulip Farm, 357 Monbulk Road, Silvan.
