CFA is warning all Victorians to reconsider any planned burn-offs following a severe weather warning for most of the state.
The Bureau of Meteorology issued the warning for damaging winds for Tuesday 17 July for the Central, Mallee, South West, North Central, West and South Gippsland, Wimmera and parts of East Gippsland, Northern Country and North East Forecast Districts.
CFA Chief Officer Steve Warrington said a number of burn-offs had already turned into grass and scrub fires.
“This morning we’ve already seen a number of burn-offs get out of control forcing CFA to attend incidents that we really shouldn’t be,” he said.
“The message is simple: if the winds are strong, cancel your burn and do it another day. It’s really not worth the risk.”
