At Sherbrooke U3A’s very first meeting in 2007, 60 people attended, 35 of those applied to become a member.

From those small beginnings the group was borne and it has since grown to over 170 members.

The Mail spoke to Sherbrooke U3A President Judith Patrick about the Sherbrooke University of the 3rd Age and its aim is to make sure age remains just a number.

“We have at least 170, it is growing but all U3A’s are growing throughout victoria – it’s the fastest growing organisation in the state.”

It offers lifelong learning, including exercise, new skill development, recreation, social activities and volunteering opportunities.”

University of the Third Age (U3A) provides educational, social and recreational programs and activities which promote lifelong learning for members of the community who are retired or semi-retired.

It encourages groups of people in their third age, for example, past retirement, to carry on learning…just because they can.

Ms Patrick said there was a plethora of activities on offer from bushwalking to Tai chi and that the Sherbrooke U3A was all about having fun.

“We do partnerships throughout the community with Upwey Tecoma Bowls Club,” Ms Patrick said.

“We try to help out the community as much as we can and have a good time doing it.

“The fun never ends in U3A.”
