A new program will reconnect Yarra Ranges high-needs learners with training.
Monbulk MP James Merlino announced that Box Hill Institute would receive $800,000 to deliver the Skills First Reconnect program.
It will help to create pathways to accredited training for 100 students living in the Yarra Ranges, Knox, Whitehorse and Melbourne.
The Reconnect Program targets early school leavers and the long-term unemployed.
It provides services to build resilience and workplace skills to prepare them for formal training and employment.
Participants will receive local support from community-based Learn Local organisations and TAFE Institutes to prepare for and undertake meaningful training.
“Reconnect is making things fair by giving every Victorian, no matter their postcode or background, access to the training and support they need to get a job,” Mr Merlino said.
The program has already worked with almost 3000 people throughout Victoria.
Of these, more than 1170 have started an accredited training course.
