Acclaimed Australian singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Xavier Rudd will be joining Rodriquez, Busby Marou, Pierce Brothers and Alice Skye at Rochford’s Day on the Green.
The renowned singer-songwriter will be bringing his iconic tribal beat elements and folk arrangements to the Yarra Valley on Saturday 16 February and will no doubt be performing old hits, as well as new classics from his recently released album Storm Boy.
As humble as he is talented, Rudd spoke to the Mail about how the journey which led to the new album Storm Boy, and spoke about how he looked forward to the Rochford performance.
He said Storm Boy was a collection of songs that he had just progressively worked on as a side project while touring.
“There was nothing planned about it,” he said.
“I just had a bit of a side project while touring with the United Nations and put an album together.
“This album I was writing in the background and there was no real reason for it, just how it all panned out.”
It’s been six years since Rudd’s last solo release, the ARIA #2 and Gold Certified Spirit Bird, and a lot of things have happened in that time. His new album Storm Boy tracks that journey along the way.
“I am super excited to offer Storm Boy to the world … it’s been an amazing journey making this album, many magical collaborations with talented people and many stories to tell.”
“Some of the tracks I’ve had tucked away under my wing for up to 10 years and I’ve waited for the right time to bring them to life.
“I feel like we captured some magic for sure.”
Having already played with Rodriquez, and met Alice Skye, Busby Marou and the Pierce Brother’s, Rudd said he was looking forward to the Rochford event.
Having only returned recently from a world tour, he said it was good to be back and touring the country he calls home.
“I love it …when I leave home part of me doesn’t come, so it’s always good to get back and is the treat at the end of it all,” he said.
“The Rochford event should be really fun.”
