On Saturday Monbulk 1 headed to Narre Warren hoping to upset a potential finalist, but things did not go according to plan.
Brian Smith’s rink started well and led by three shots after two shots. They then lost the next five ends to trail by seven shots. The Monbulk rink stayed in touch and was within four shots after 14 ends. However, their opponents finished better and they went down by 11 shots, 12 to 23.
Jenny Holmes’ rink was right in the contest early and led by four shots after seven ends. They were still one shot in front after 15 ends and fought hard, but dropped four shots on the last end to lose by six shots, 18 to 24.
Eric Markham’s rink was never in the contest-winning only three ends and went down by 35 shots, 5 to 40.
Jim Bras’ rink led for most of the match and after 16 ends led by three shots. However, they lost four of the last five ends to go down by four shots, 16 to 20.
Monbulk lost the overall by 56 shots, 51 to 107.
Monbulk 2 played Upwey/Tecoma at home with a win guaranteeing them a place in the finals.
Eric Furby’s rink was well on top early and led by 11 shots after eight ends. They continued to pick up a number of multiples and won by 21 shots, 32 to 11.
Jim Anderson’s rink was all square after seven ends. They then started to take control and when they picked up six shots on the thirteenth end they led by 12 shots. They eventually won by 15 shots, 29 to 14.
Alan Hamilton’s rink was three shots down after nine ends, but then picked up eight shots in four ends to lead by five. They won the majority of the remaining ends to win by 10 shots, 24 to 14.
After dropping four shots on the first end Graeme Goller’s rink won eight of the next nine ends to lead by eight shots. By the seventeenth end, they led by 10 shots and ended up winning by 7 shots, 21 to 14.
Monbulk won the overall by 53 shots, 106 to 53 and are finals bound in two weeks.
Monbulk 3 played top team Cockatoo at home and in the end, proved no match.
Graham Mayos rink began well and led by four shots after three ends. They were still one shot in front after eight ends and scores were all tied after 11 ends.
However, they dropped 12 shots in the last eight ends to lose by that margin, nine to 21.
Mike Harris’ rink ran up against some stiff opposition and was never in the game losing by 27 shots, 1 to 28.
