Emerald Secondary College has reportedly gone into lockdown due to poor air quality.
In an ‘Important message’ posted on Facebook the school is currently in lockdown due to poor air quality.
“Students are safe and will remain indoors until further notice. If you choose to collect your child lease call the office beforehand to arrange collection,” the post said.
“We have been in contact with the Department of Education and are awaiting further advice regarding end of day procedures and school tomorrow.”
“This is in line with our emergency management plan. We will continue to keep you updated throughout the day. Thank you Emerald SC.”
The schools decision follows the news that a number of schools in Gembrook and Cockatoo have shut today as a result of the Bunyip State Park fires and the smoke that is blanketing the Dandenong Ranges.
Those schools include; Cockatoo Primary School, Cockatoo Primary School Outside School Hours Care Gembrook Primary School, and Gembrook Primary School Outside School Hours Care.
There is currently a Watch and Act message issued for Beenak, Gembrook, Mount Burnett, Nar Nar Goon North, Pakenham Upper and Whites Corner.
