Nuts for chestnuts

The annual Kalorama Chestnut Festival returned on Sunday 5 May for its 30th year.

The Mount Dandenong Preschool fund-raiser takes place on the first Sunday in May at Kalorama Reserve.

The humble and underutilised chestnut was at the heart of the event.

The nut has been grown in Australia for more than 100 years and is synonymous with autumn in the hills.

Photographer Greg Carrick captured some of the fun for the Mail.
