Grants for Children’s Week celebrations

Non-for-profit organisations and councils are being encouraged to apply for grants that will help celebrate this year’s Children’s Week.

Children’s Week will be held from 24 October to 1 November and activities will be planned for children up to 12 years old.

The State Government has announced grants of up to $1000 that are available for eligible organisations to host free activities.

This year, the event has expanded to include online and virtual events for children due to Covid-19.

All in-person events will be subject to any Department of Health and Human Services guidelines in place at the time.

Eastern Victoria MP Harriet Shing said the Government encouraged local groups to get involved.

“Children’s Week is always a wonderful and unique opportunity to celebrate the lives, talents and achievement of Victorian children,” she said.

“We encourage eligible not-for-profit organisations and local councils in the Yarra Valley and Dandenong Ranges to apply for these grants to help celebrate this year’s Children’s Week.”

Traditionally, Children’s Week attracts thousands of Victorian children taking part in activities such as art exhibitions, dance workshops, musical performances, picnics and sporting activities.

The theme for Children’s Week this year celebrates the right of children to choose and connect with their friends, based on Article 15 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Applications for grants close 5pm on 15 July and can be applied for by visiting www.education.vic.gov/childrensweek.
