Residents in the Hills have been warned not to drink tap water following last week’s wild weather.
Yarra Valley Water issued a warning at 2.30am on Wednesday 16 June, advising that residents in Kallista, Sherbrooke and The Patch refrain from using tap water.
The warning comes after a tank was damaged in Wednesday’s severe weather, resulting in “potentially unsafe” water entering the supply network.
Customers are advised not to use water for drinking, preparing beverages, washing and preparing food, preparing baby formula, brushing teeth or making ice.
“Special care should be taken to not ingest the water when bathing or showering,” a Yarra Valley Water spokesperson said.
“Until we can guarantee that the water is safe to drink again, we ask customers who live, work or are in these suburbs not to drink tap water until further notice,” they said.
Yarra Valley Water advised it is working closely with the Department of Health to resolve the issue, however residents are advised the warning will be in place until at least Saturday.
Emergency drinking water is available at:
– The Patch Hall, 5 The Patch Road, The Patch.
– The Kallista Pub Hall, 6 Tom Roberts Road, Kallista.
