Hello to viral video

Mater Christi College has created an online viral video, sending a special 'Hello' to students and families.

Belgrave’s Mater Christi College has put a smile on students and parents faces by taking a popular Adele song to a new lockdown level.

Principal Maria Haggett created the video with teachers and school leaders and said they wanted to do something to cheer up the students.

“These are tough times for everyone, it’s great to find something to laugh about and take our minds of all of the bad news,” she said.

The team altered the words of the pop singer’s ‘Hello’ to be more in tune with the current climate.

It begins, “Hello it’s me, I was wondering how lockdown six is going actually.. Vaccination, it’s the key, they say the Pfizer is the one to get but there’s no Pfizer to be seen.”

And the chorus sure draws in the sorrow of ‘greeting’ restrictions, “Hello from our lockdown life.. we’ve done this now oh yeah six times.

“Hello to you in lockdown life… we’re proud of you we know you’ve tried… reading, movies and yoga for fun, don’t forget your school work it has to be done..”

Ms Haggett said the staff have been finding new ways to connect with students while they can’t be on site.

“It can be hard to feel connected in these times, the physical space of a school is such a big part of the lives of students and staff. It’s important to us that our students feel that they belong to a community that cares.”

Social media comments on the post have thrown their support behind the parody.

‘Watching this as a Grandma I found it very emotional and I’m so glad my granddaughter is an MCC student’

‘Just wonderful and joyous. Put a smile on my face, thank you. Thank you for everything you all do for our girls and MCC’

‘This put a huge smile on my face! I Was a MCC student 10 years ago and it’s so nice to see some familiar faces in this video! All wonderful teachers – thank you MCC’
