Animal Tales exhibition coming to Lakeside

Animal Tales is coming to Lakeside Visitor Centre in a partnership between award-winning photographic artist and Guys Hill local Karen Alsop and the Puffing Billy railway.

Animal Tales is a three-part, animal-focused photographic series that compares human characteristics, behaviours, or situations with the faces of real-life native animals.

Known for her anthropomorphic work, Karen has taken inspiration from our heritage steam railway to produce Aussie Wildlife Adventures, which depicts a wombat, kangaroo and echidna enjoying Puffing Billy in the heart of the Dandenong Ranges.

These creatures of the forest are also rescued wildlife featured in the Homeless Wildlife series at the visitor centre.

Karen has worked with rescuers around Australia to create eye-opening artwork that brings to the forefront the challenges these native animals face every day.

With animal puns hidden deep inside her digital portraiture, Karen’s original work Animal Puns, which won her Animal Photography of the Year at the Australian Institute of Photography, will be on show and have viewers engaged for hours.

People can order their very own piece, either a portrait personally delivered by Karen or the merchandise available in the Lakeside Visitor Centre gift shop, to take home and admire forever.

The Aussie Wildlife Adventures series will run from Saturday 2 April to Friday 24 June at the Lakeside Visitor Centre from 9am to 4pm daily.
