Local RSL branches will be holding memorial services throughout the Dandenong Ranges and foothills for this year’s Remembrance Day.
Monbulk RSL president Bill Ford said the sub-branch would be holding a service at 11am on Friday 11 November, and he asked for people to arrive at 10.45am.
“We’ve been selling our poppies again and we’d like to thank the community for their support,” he said.
“Things a very tough for people at the moment financially, but they still dig deep to help the veterans.”
Monbulk RSL is located at 48 Main Road, Monbulk.
Boronia RSL will be holding a small service on Friday with the details still to be confirmed, with a larger service to be held at 11am on Sunday 13 November at the Tim Neville Arboretum, located at 98 Dorset Road, Ferntree Gully. A march will be held from Francis Street, Boronia.
Boronia RSL is located at 198 Dorset Road, Boronia.
Upwey-Belgrave RSL President Anthony Stewart said the sub-branch will hold both a service in the morning and a dinner on Friday 11 November.
“We normally hold it at the memorial in Belgrave but it looks like it may rain, so we will do it at 11am at the sub-branch,” he said.
“Everyone is welcome at the dinner, it’s a 6.30pm arrival for a 7pm start.”
Upwey-Belgrave RSL is located at 1 Mast Gully Road, Upwey.
Remembrance Day is held at 11am on 11 November to commemorate the end of the First World War, marking the time, hour and date when the armistice was signed in 1918.
