Rolled Truck on Monash Freeway

A truck rollover has closed all lanes of the Monash Freeway in Melbourne, creating major traffic delays east of the city.

The Monash Freeway/CityLink remains closed inbound from Warrigal Road, as crews work to clear a truck trailer rollover near the Church Street Bridge.

Motorists are urged to plan ahead for the afternoon peak, with significant impacts expected to the freeway and surrounding roads heading towards and away from the city.

All inbound entry ramps between Warrigal Road and the Domain Tunnel are also closed.

Drivers are asked to allow plenty of extra time when travelling through the inner south-eastern suburbs and to detour wide around the impacted area of detouring north of the CBD to avoid congestion.

Crews are currently working to remove the truck and trailer, then a crane will be used to remove the approximately 50-tonne load from the roadway.

Road patching works will also be required to ensure the road surface is safe for motorists before re-opening lanes.

Wellington Road, Ferntree Gully Road or Blackburn Road are suggested routes to reach Dandenong Road.

Drivers can then use Kings Way to reach the West Gate Freeway or the CBD.

This incident is under the control of emergency services and lanes will only re-open when it’s safe to do so.

The Department of Transport and Planning’s signal engineers are monitoring conditions and adjusting traffic lights to assist detouring traffic.

Real-time traffic conditions are available at traffic.vicroads.vic.gov.au.
