Following an arson attack at a local hotel, detectives from Cardinia Crime Investigation Unit have arrested a suspect.
On Wednesday the 30th of August 2023, Cardinia Crime Investigation Unit interviewed a 41 year old male from Clematis, relating to a fire at Paradise Valley Hotel.
The suspect allegedly set fire to the hotel at approximately 3am on the 30th July, and it is believed the man lit the fire due to grievances relating to noise and drunk patrons at the venue.
Building materials being used in renovations were set alight in the storage area, which caught on to parts of the premise.
Damage caused by the fire is estimated at $100,000 and was heartbreaking for the owners who were in the process of renovating the premises.
Part owner Mark Protheroe told Star Mail in a previous interview he was “blown away” by the support of the community, and thanked locals for helping the business get back on track so swiftly.
“The tradies involved with the repairs have been awesome,” he said.
The venue was able to reopen to the community on Friday 4 August, after CFA units had been on site just days before.
The man has been charged with Criminal Damage by Fire (Arson) and was bailed to appear at the Dandenong Magistrates Court in December.
