BELGRAVE’S Mater Christi College is recognised for its innovative approaches to learning, particularly in the critical early years of secondary girls’ education.
This commitment is evident in a number of initiatives including small class sizes, targeted maths programs, integrated studies of rich themes and active learning programs designed to engage and excite junior students.
“We are striving to develop the students as creative, critical thinkers by engaging them in authentic learning activities. Through well-structured student-centred programs, we can excite the students and encourage them to take responsibility for their learning,” said principal Mary Fitz-Gerald.
“The Active Learning in Varied Environments (8ALIVE), is a highly innovative program for year-eight girls with broader cross-curricular objectives. For one week each term, the students undertake activities linked to one of the four themes — self, survive, strive and thrive.
“The themes evolve from a focus on the individual, to an appreciation of their environment and ultimately to community advocacy. Students explore their own learning styles and apply this knowledge to the cross-curriculum themes of 8ALIVE,” said Ms Fitz-Gerald. Find out more at Mater Christi’s open day on Thursday 16 February between 9am-2.30pm and 7pm -9pm. For all inquiries, contact 9754 6611.
