The State Government is delivering schools and teachers the resources they need to implement Victoria’s revised curriculum.
Education Minister Ben Carroll announced on Friday 21 June the release of the Victorian Curriculum F–10 Version 2.0 on a new accessible website.
The release delivers on a $20 million investment to distribute a leading curriculum for schools to be taught in all Victorian classrooms by 2026.
Led by the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) – the Victorian Curriculum F–10 Version 2.0 delivers the next generation of students from Prep to Year 10 a knowledge-rich curriculum that will make them active, informed citizens prepared to navigate a diverse and changing world.
Version 2.0 has been developed through extensive consultation with feedback from more than 300 primary and secondary teachers. This feedback has produced a high-quality curriculum that teachers can implement confidently, including revisions that better meet the needs of Victorian students.
Education Minister Ben Carroll said the the resources will help improve Victorian classrooms.
“The updated curriculum will ensure Victoria remains the Education State – giving students contemporary and relevant knowledge and skills to become informed and active citizens,” he said.
“We’re making sure Victorian students remain the best performers in the country by delivering a school curriculum that is up to date and contemporary.”
The new curriculum maintains priorities and standards while strengthening students’ access to essential knowledge and skills.
It is also more teachable and manageable and delivers improved achievement standards to help teachers assess student learning more effectively.
With this revision, students will experience improved learning transitions from early years to primary school and gain the necessary knowledge and skills to follow their chosen senior secondary pathway.
6 learning areas are now available: the Arts, Technologies, Humanities, Health and Physical Education, Languages, and Science – these follow the release of Mathematics and English in 2023.
The Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority Board Chair Diane Joseph said both teachers and students will benefit from this reviewed curriculum.
“The Victorian Curriculum F–10 Version 2.0 is a testament to Victoria’s expert teachers and school leaders who provided valuable feedback, insight and contributions that have led to the revised curriculum,” she said.
Throughout 2024 and 2025, the VCAA will support teachers and schools in becoming familiar with Version 2.0 by providing access to a targeted program of resources and professional learning opportunities.
Each sector will determine the implementation of the Victorian Curriculum F–10 Version 2.0, which is planned to commence in Term 1, 2026.
