Still time left to enter in the Biodiversity Blitz

There’s still time left to enter the 2025 Biodiversity Blitz to take the Yarra Ranges to the win.

September is biodiversity month and the Yarra Ranges Council is partnering with other Melbourne councils to see who can record the most species in iNaturalist.

Every photo shared helps scientists and researchers while celebrating the incredible biodiversity in the Yarra Ranges community.

Yarra Ranges currently ranks third in the 2025 Biodiversity Blitz with 4398 recorded observations as of Friday 26 September.

It puts them behind second-placed Frankston City Council and table-toppers Mornington Peninsula Shire.

The Yarra Ranges has also registered 873 species.

Mornington Peninsula Shire lead the way with 5187 observations and 1235 species recorded.

For the month of September, people are encouraged to download the iNaturalist app (or sign up online) where they can snap photos of local plants and animals.

To partake, first sign up at the iNaturalist website: inaturalist.ala.org.au/home.
