Yarra Valley Water encourages those doing it tough to reach out

Are you feeling financial pressure? Yarra Valley Water is encouraging residents of the Yarra Ranges who are struggling to reach out for support ahead of the holiday season.

It comes after the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare reports that in April 2025, about 35 per cent of Australian adults found it “difficult or very difficult” to meet household expenses on their current income:

There’s a range of ways to ease the cost of water bills, including concessions, grants and flexible payment plans.

Yarra Valley Water general manager strategy and community Tiffany White encouraged people experiencing financial difficulties to use the support available to them.

“We know that balancing finances during the holiday season can be a stressful experience for people who are already feeling the pressure,” she said.

“We want to show up for our customers and help where we can. That’s why we have a dedicated financial support team that can assist people in paying their water bills, with different options to suit individual circumstances.”

Households on low incomes in the Yarra Ranges and surrounds may be eligible for utility relief grants worth up to $650 off bills over two years.

The organisation can also arrange payment plans and extensions and connect customers with free financial counselling.

Previous surveys showed some customers hesitate to seek help because they feel a sense of embarrassment.

Ms White said she didn’t want this to be a blocker for anyone.

“We want our customers to feel heard and supported. It’s better to reach out so we can help with your water bills than to struggle in silence,” she said.

“Friendly, understanding help is available now and a phone call could make all the difference this holiday season.”

Anyone experiencing financial stress or hardship can visit yvw.com.au/financial-help or call the financial support team on 1300 853 811.
