Flowery family fun at Blue Lotus Water Garden

With the pressures of Christmas now over, I’m sure many parents are looking for ways to keep the kids entertained over the school holidays.

The Blue Lotus Water Garden at Yarra Junction is the perfect place to get the kids outside in the fresh air, while parents get to soak up the beauty of lotus flowers and the tranquillity of the gardens.

As part of their special 21st birthday year celebrations, on weekends over the school holidays the garden will provide a line-up of entertainment for the little ones. Everything from enchanted fairy stories to amazing magic shows, depending on the day. Face painting will also be available for a small fee. Best of all, children under 16 have free entry, helping to make any visit affordable.

The Blue Lotus Water Garden is famous for the largest display of lotus and waterlily flowers in Australia. Over summer, visitors will experience a breathtaking floral display covering 50,000 square meters of tropically themed water gardens. Another wow factor is the amazing Giant Amazon Waterlilies, made famous by David Attenborough in his TV series on plants. These spectacular waterlilies produce huge leaves (lily pads) that can grow to 1.8m in diameter. The gardens are the only place in Victoria where you can see this wonder of nature.

And there is a host of family-friendly facilities on offer no matter what day you visit.

Highlights include:

Thousands of flowers to see and 14 acres of tropical gardens to explore.

Plenty of picnic shelters and BBQs, plus a fabulous café and ice cream kiosk.

Large fairy garden with cubbies, slides and of course, plenty of fairies.

Large marquee with games, Frog Hollow with its giant frogs and Todd’s Tree House with its zippy slide.

Face painting available daily (weather dependent) and free Dragon Spotto Treasure Hunt.

The Blue Lotus Water Garden is open 7 days a week including public holidays until the 19 April. Ticket prices: Adult $26.50, Senior $23.50, Child under 16 free (t&c’s apply). To find out more about the gardens, school holiday events or to purchase tickets, please visit their website bluelotus.com.au.

Address: 2628 Warburton Highway, Yarra Junction.
