THE arrival of two new additional doctors at Selby Family Clinic will help relieve the general practitioner shortage in the Hills area.
Both UK trained, Dr Michael Banning and Dr Mark Medlicott bring considerable experience to the area.
They join the team of dedicated doctors, Drs Jeff Lindenmayer, Heather Allen and John Gruner.
“We are so relieved to have finally attracted two well trained, permanent doctors to Selby,” said principal doctor, Dr Jeff Lindenmayer.
“At last we can offer our patients an appointment on their day of choice, and we will have the time for review visits as needed,” he said.
Dr Banning emigrated from England with his family in July this year.
He has extensive experience in the management of diabetes, having led a clinic in the UK.
“Diabetes is a growing problem in the UK and Australia. It is often undiagnosed or under treated until complications occur,” Dr Banning said.
He believes the Diabetes Clinic at Selby will provide quality management, advice and support with a podiatrist, optometrist and diabetes educator as part of the team.
Selby Family Clinic’s latest recruit, Dr Mark Medlicott, is familiar to the Hills, having worked at the Angliss Hospital in 2003.
His interests in paediatrics and assisting Jeff with the obstetrics program will keep him busy at Selby.
The clinic has a midwife-led obstetric service, which operates in conjunction with the Angliss Hospital.
More than 200 women attend the Partnership Maternity Care Program during their pregnancy and deliver their babies at the Angliss Hospital with Dr Jeff Lindenmayer providing medical back-up.
Dr Heather Allen has a special interest in women’s health and the emerging area of women’s hormones and how this imbalance can cause so many problems.
She uses hormones to try to address these issues as well as other approaches.
This is part of a new concept in Australia of anti-aging medicine, an area in which Dr Allen is gaining experience.
Selby Family Clinic is located in Selby, beside the General Store and is open six days a week.
