Commuter security beefed up

CASEY commuters will see a step towards a safer Victoria under a Coalition Government after the announcement of 100 extra transit police on trains, trams and buses.
The new officers will take Victoria Police’s transit division to 350 police dedicated solely to the safety of passengers.
In addition to the transit police commitment, last week Victoria Police announced that 600 frontline police would be allocated across Victoria by 30 June.
South Eastern Metropolitan MP Inga Peulich said one of the most important issues Casey residents had contacted her office about was the rise of violent and anti-social behaviour.
“The boost in transit police numbers will send a clear message to the Casey community that anti-social behaviour and violence would not be tolerated under a Coalition Government,” she said.
“This will be one stage of combating that behaviour and to ensure that our public transport network is safe for every Casey resident to use.
“After 11 years of under-funding, and neglect by the former Labor Government, the Coalition has begun the first stage of or commitment to deliver 1700 extra police over four years.”
